Description: This is a painting of wild prairie roses. I went out in my neighborhood at 1 in the morning and took photos of the wild roses blooming on the banks of the Red River. I wanted to create an image of the magical, still, spooky and beautiful feeling of a summers night. I paint thick layered and unplanned. With this free exploration of paint handing I am trying to exude that nighttime feeling.
How it Was Made: The materials I used are Winsor & Newton Artist Oil Paint, Ampersand Gesso Board, Winsor & Newton Linseed Oil. I painted late at night in my Winnipeg studio. These night paintings are done over a long period of time gradually changing and layering.
