Chives Path, Original Oil Painting
Title: Chives Path
Size: 5 x 7 inches
Medium: Oil on Ampersand Board
Year: 2020
Description: This is a painting of my garden and the cement block path. I love this path it is a small loop trail through my plants. Often I walk it slowly touching and smelling plants as I go it grounds me in the moment and calms me. My chives have these spiky purple flowers that many types of bees are attracted to. In this paintings I wanted to gift the viewer with depth, a place to look far into the distance. I created a detailed foreground, a soft pastel background and I played with the scale of the bees to create distance. It is a sunny day at noon. I painted this because I love painting and being outside and this allowed me to do both. I like watching the bees for hours as I sit and paint in the sun. Because I watched them their flight trails seemed important and I smeared some in.
How it Was Made: The materials I used are Winsor & Newton Artist Oil Paint, Ampersand Gesso Board, Winsor & Newton Linseed Oil. I painted this plein air in my backyard in Winnipeg.
*Please note: colors may appear slightly different on screen than in person.
